Description

The West Suburban Humane Society is an animal welfare organization that was founded in 1972. Initially, the organization worked with lost pets in an effort to reconnect the animals with their owners. Eventually, the volunteers that founded the West Suburban Humane Society began to take in stray animals and house them in various small shelters until they were able to rehomed.

Today, the West Suburban Humane Society has one central location. As this location they can provide care for up to 25 dogs and 60 cats at a time. Cats and dogs come to the Humane Society from a variety of sources. The organization provides shelter, food, and care (including veterinary) care for all of the animals it takes in.

2017 marked the 24th anniversary of the annual Barkapalooza fundraiser. The fundraiser kicks off with a mile walk, for animals and people. Participants raise money by asking for donation pledges. The walk is followed by an expo that includes demonstrations, vendors, artists, and photographers.

All proceeds from this event are used to support the West Suburban Humane Society.

This collection contains tweets, Facebook posts, articles, photographs, and videos that detail how the event has grown and changed over the years. This collection serves to preserve an important event that has a positive impact on its community.
