Influenza-like illness in the United States and Mexico

On April 24, 2009, the World Health Organization announced that multiple cases of an influenza-like illness had been diagnosed in the United States and Mexico.

Two days later, more cases had been identified, and WHO and the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN) sent experts to Mexico to work with health authorities. On Saturday, 25 April, upon the advice of the Emergency Committee called under the rules of the International Health Regulations, the Director-General declared this event a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
