History of the Butler Lecture Series Home
The annual Butler Lecture series is hosted by the Butler Children’s Literature Center in Dominican University’s School of Information Studies, and is generously supported by the Butler Family Foundation. The inaugural Lecture took place in 2013 and featured Caldecott Medal-winning children’s book creator Ed Young, who presented “The House Baba Built,” the same title as his newest picture book at the time, on February 22, 2013. As of September 2017, the Butler Center has hosted five Lectures, with plans in place for both the 2018 Lecture featuring children’s book author and editor Andrea Davis Pinkney on March 14, 2018 and the 2019 Lecturer featuring Cuban American storyteller and author Carmen Agra Deedy on March 20, 2019. This collection represents an archive of documents, images, and web pages related to the Butler Lecture since its inception, including Lecturer head shots, biographies, and book jackets; and promotional items, social media posts, and publicity about the Lecturers. We hope to augment this collection beginning in 2018 with the actual texts, and perhaps audio or video recordings, of the Lectures.
