History and Legacy
Built for his first wife, Touie, Undershaw was the home of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle from 1897-1907. He wrote numerous works while living there, including The Hound of the Baskervilles and The Return of Sherlock Holmes. He also entertained many of his notable contemporaries, including Bram Stoker and J.M. Barrie. Following its sale, Undershaw became a hotel and remained so until 2004, at which point it was allowed to fall into disrepair. It has sat vacant ever since.
